Types of saffron

  • root (cream or kanj)
  • bunch (Dokhtarpich)
  • Pushal
  • Negin
  • Sargol
  • broken

saffron root (cream)

You might think that this part of saffron is the root that is placed in the soil, but it is not.

The saffron root is actually the end part of the saffron stigma, which is attached to its flower and has a white color.

Saffron root has some properties of its red part, but it does not have the ability to dye.

Therefore, if you want to use only the healing properties of saffron, you can use its root.

Also, if you want to use the properties of saffron for skin and hair and its color is not important to you, you can use saffron root and only benefit from its properties.

bunch (Dokhtarpich)

When the saffron is dry, the entire stigma, including the root and the red part, is separated and put together in a bunch and tied with thread.

In this way, Dokhtarpich saffron is prepared.

Its white part is between 3 and 5 mm, it is grade 4 and has the lowest price among other types of saffron.

The coloring of this type of saffron is between 120 and 150 units.

Pushal

Pushal saffron is stigma with a small part of cream, in this type of saffron, the amount of cream is about 3 mm.

Due to the presence of the stigma, its coloring is more than the Bunch.

It has about 170 to 250 coloring units.

There are two types of Pushal saffron:

Normal Pushal:

In this saffron, the cream part is a little more and the stigmas are a bit wrinkled and not very neat.

Pushal Qalamdar:

There is less cream in the Qalamdar pushal, and the stigmas are thicker and not curled.

Negin

One of the most luxurious types of saffron is Nagin saffron.

Negin saffron has a very high coloring, the stigmas are not broken, all three stigmas are connected and there is no cream.

The highest amount of coloring is for Negin saffron and it has between 230 and 270 coloring units.

These features have made foreign countries often demand this type of saffron, and Nagin saffron is exported more than other types.

There are different types of precious saffron:

  • super Negin
  • otouie or pressed Negin

super Negin

This type of saffron is similar to Negin, but the only difference with Negin is that the stigmas are thicker and larger.

Also, the color of none of them is dark.

otouie or pressed Negin

In Nagin otouie or Pressed saffron, the stigmas are completely smooth because of the way they are dried and the pressure applied to them.

Because of this, they take a beautiful shape and are suitable for export.

Sargol

Sargol saffron does not have any part of the cream and its coloring and aroma are very high.

Its difference with saffron Negin is that the stigmas are completely separate and not connected like the Negin type.

Sargol saffron is also suitable for export and has a high price.

Sargol saffron coloring is between 210 and 260 units.

Sargol saffron has three distinct types, root head and pen head.

Broken

This type of saffron is created due to displacement or when cleaning saffron.
